How it works

Track your spending, plan your retirement and ask about both.

Track

See every account and where your money goes.

Connect your banks, cards and brokerages. Kilter can read your accounts but can’t move money. You can bring in your history from many budgeting apps too.

Transactions come in sorted into categories. Change one and Kilter remembers it for that merchant. Reports then show where your money goes each month.

Bank sync and AI categorization come with Core and Plus.

Plan

Plan from your own numbers.

Start from the balances and spending you already have, then add events like a child, a home or retirement. The chart updates as you edit, across 2,000 simulations of market returns.

Kilter works out where each spare dollar should go and which accounts to draw from later. It shows you why, too. Set an emergency fund or keep an account aside, and Kilter plans around it.

Add your mortgage renewals too, each with when it renews and the rate you expect. Kilter works out your new payment and shows what it does to your plan. See how renewals work

With Core, Compare puts plans side by side. With Plus, Retire ASAP finds the earliest you can retire and keep the chance of success you want.

Ask

Ask the assistant about your plan.

Ask in plain English. When the answer is a change, the assistant shows your current plan next to the proposed one, and nothing changes until you apply it. Kilter does the math, so the assistant never makes up a number.

It also points things out while you use Kilter and remembers what you tell it between conversations. You can read and edit what it remembers. The assistant comes with Core and Plus.

Taxes

Federal and provincial tax, worked out every year.

Kilter works out federal tax and tax for every province and territory except Quebec. Your plan shows what you keep after tax.

Retirement income

CPP from 60 to 70 and OAS from 65 to 70, the OAS clawback, GIS, RRIF minimums and pension income splitting with your spouse.

Tax strategies

Kilter compares an RRSP meltdown, gains harvesting in low-income years, pension splitting and starting CPP and OAS at 65 or 70. It shows what each adds to your estate. With Plus, you see which is best and apply it in a click.

Kids and RESPs

CESG with carry-forward, the Canada Learning Bond, the BC grant and what happens when the plan winds up.

Corporations

CCPCs with the small business deduction, RDTOH, GRIP and the capital dividend account. You set the salary you pay yourself. Kilter draws dividends when you need cash and in low-income years. Corporations come with Plus.

Provincial rules

Low-income reductions, Ontario’s surtax and health premium, BC’s bracket freeze, dividend tax credits and probate fees.

Your estate

Deemed disposition at death, probate and estate costs. What’s left is what your heirs get after tax.

Kilter doesn’t work out Quebec tax.

Your AI apps

Use Kilter from Claude, ChatGPT or Codex.

Connect the AI app you already use. It can search your transactions, recategorize a merchant, add a rule or change your plan. Connected apps come with Core and Plus.

  • Its changes apply right away. The History page shows each one and who made it.
  • You can undo most of its changes in one click.
  • You approve the connection in Kilter. You don’t hand over a password or key.
